1 SCOTS Memorial Refurbishment

1 SCOTS Memorial Refurbishment
Regimental Headquarters has recently overseen the refurbishment of the 1 SCOTS memorial at Dreghorn Barracks, ensuring this lasting tribute to our fallen officers and soldiers continues to be honoured decades on.
The memorial, a Celtic cross carved from Stanton Moor Sandstone, commemorates members of 1 SCOTS who made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan: Capt Walter Barrie, Cpl Johnathan Moore, LCpl Joseph Pool, Pte Sean McDonald and Pte Stu Collins.
Originally unveiled in 2011 by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, the Battalion’s Royal Colonel, the memorial holds a special place in the hearts of soldiers and families from the battalion. The refurbishment ensures the memorial remains a poignant tribute and lasting reminder of the courage and sacrifice of those who served with 1 SCOTS.
Major General (Retired) Charlie Herbert OBE said: “This memorial is a symbol of remembrance and respect for our fallen comrades. Keeping it in prime condition honours their memory and the spirit of the Battalion.”
The refurbishment coincides with the 20th Anniversary of The Royal Regiment of Scotland. To further honour the legacy of 1 SCOTS, the laying up of its Colours will take place on Sunday 11 October at the Cannongate Kirk.
