Our Story

Co-located with the Royal Scots Museum inside iconic Edinburgh Castle, visitors will find the stories of Scotland’s oldest and youngest infantry regiments under one roof. For those further afield, our Regimental Museums Learning Hub is the place to go for more highlights from our collection.

The Museum is a registered charity (no. SC044665) and relies on the generosity of our visitors and regimental family to care for and share our collection. If you would like to support the Museum by making a donation, please click the link below.

The Museum of The Royal Regiment of Scotland tells the story of our regiment from its formation in 2006 to present day. Our current exhibition displays a small selection of objects from our collection which showcase what it is to be a modern Scottish soldier, and proud successor to Scotland’s world-famous infantry regiments.

SITUATED IN HISTORIC EDINBURGH CASTLE

Our independent museum is situated inside Edinburgh Castle, Scotland’s top visitor attraction. Our current opening hours are:

9.30am - 3.45pm Monday - Friday
9.30am - 4.30pm Saturday - Sunday

Last entry is 15 minutes before closing.

Please note that the Museum is operated by a small team and these times can change at short notice. We recommend you contact us ahead of your visit to avoid any possible disappointment.

Visitors with a connection to the Regiment, or an interest in a specific item held in the collection, are asked to give at least 72 hours notice to ensure appropriate arrangements can be made for entry and viewing.

Edinburgh Castle

The Museum regularly refreshes the collections on display, and works with a variety of other museums, community groups and organisations to spread the story of The SCOTS as far as possible.

Our collection continues to grow through donations and loans from serving and veteran members of the regiment and their families.

In 2017 our collection was recognised as Nationally Significant to Scotland, as part of the Scottish Regimental Museums’ Collection cared for by the Association of Scottish Military Museums.
