25 soldiers from The Royal Regiment of Scotland have recently tackled Scotland’s Highland Kings Ultra Marathon in the Glencoe region, around the Dalness estate.
The 31 mile ultra-marathon took place on the final day of a four day event that was designed by ex-Special Forces, which saw runners conquer the rugged yet scenic terrain.
With representation from 2,3 and 4 SCOTS it was a valiant effort from all participants, though there must be a special mention to 4 SCOTS who won the team event, placing 5 runners in the overall top 10.
With one member of the SCOTS contingent finishing the run and putting his shoes straight in the bin the mental resilience that our personnel embody must not be overlooked. One runner said “most deployable fit soldiers could run a marathon on their mindset alone. An ultra is the real challenge.”
The SCOTS participants have juggled their triumphant achievement with their day-to-day drumbeats from around the Regiment with many returning to the office the very next day.
Well done to all involved.
